MUNGERS CORNERS Dist. #9
The first school at Mungers Corners was a log structure built in 1831 on land purchased from Ezra Green. The school was erected for $150 and the first trustees were: Silas Walter, Elisha Seeley, Samuel Pierce. There were 56 pupils and the salary was $9-$12 monthly. In 1837, $12.63 of public money was allotted to pay the teachers salary.
In 1845, a second school was built across the road from the original. This building was used until 1874, when a larger building was needed. It was built on the same site by Homer Ames, a contractor from Mexico. The trustee at the time was Lansing Burrows.
The rural schools were centralized into Mexico in 1936 but the pupils still met in the rural schools for some years. The trustee at the time of centralization was Charles Raymond, Sr.
